Location: Remote, with occasional on-site work at NCIA The Hague (NLD)
Duties & Roles:
- Test Case Development & Baseline Management: Develop, update, and maintain manual and automated JTS/FAST test cases, test scenarios, scripts, and test data in accordance with requirements, user stories, defects, and release planning. Manage the test baseline to support defect verification, regression testing, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and operational validation. Clear out obsolete, duplicated, or incomplete test assets.
- Test Execution & Quality Assurance: Perform manual, automated, functional, regression, integration, and system testing to validate JTS/FAST software modules. Support integration and verification activities to ensure components operate correctly within the wider system and comply with interface, interoperability, and operational requirements. Verify data exchange formats such as NVG and ADatP-3.
- Automated Testing & Framework Support: Develop, update, maintain, and refactor automated test scripts, test data assertions, and execution configurations. Expand the automated test suite to cover interface configuration, database replication, and functional release scenarios using approved automation tools and repositories.
- Regression & Release Verification: Execute regression tests, functional verifications, and release candidate testing for planned baselines (e.g., JTS/FAST 5.2 and 6.0). Prepare and coordinate Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and User Acceptance Tests. Provide on-site support during Factory Acceptance Tests.
- Defect Reporting & Documentation: Identify, analyze, document, and track software defects and quality issues with clear reproduction steps, environment details, and severity metrics. Maintain accurate test documentation, including test plans, execution reports, regression evidence, automation guides, and release readiness inputs.
- Process Improvement & Collaboration: Provide structured testing feedback and practical recommendations for test automation, regression scope refinement, and test execution efficiency. Capture lessons learned from customer support and interoperability events and brief stakeholders in person on-site. Update tracking assets via Jira or equivalent tools and participate in project planning, stand-ups, and release readiness reviews.
Skill, Knowledge & Experience:
- Core Testing Experience: At least 5 years of professional experience in software testing and quality assurance, focusing on complex software systems, networked applications, or distributed environments.
- Test Design & Execution: At least 3 years of professional experience designing, writing, executing, and maintaining manual test cases across functional, regression, integration, interface, and release-related scenarios. Minimum of 3 years of experience in defect identification, reporting, retesting, and verification using tracking tools.
- API & Interoperability Testing: At least 2 years of experience testing APIs or data exchange interfaces (request/response behavior, filtering, error handling). At least 2 years of experience with interoperability testing, message handling, and multi-system test environments.
- Automation & Scripting: Minimum of 2 years of professional experience working with test automation frameworks (e.g., Robot Framework, Gauge, Cucumber, Selenium, Playwright, Cypress). At least 1 year of experience with scripting/programming languages supporting automation and troubleshooting (e.g., Java, Python, Linux Bash, Ansible).
- Tooling & Infrastructure: At least 1 year of experience with containerized or virtualized test environments (Docker). Demonstrated experience using development and testing tools such as Jira, Zephyr, GitLab, CI/CD pipelines, and artifact repositories. Competency in managing formal test documentation frameworks and defining validation criteria.
- Certifications & Demographics (Desirable): Relevant testing or technical certifications (e.g., ISTQB, TMap, Microsoft, Red Hat, CompTIA, Cisco) are desirable. Full proficiency in English is required. Must hold the nationality of a NATO member nation.
- Clearance: A valid NATO Secret security clearance is mandatory prior to the start of the engagement.
